Activities in the Library
An after school Homework Club is held in the Main School Library every evening and Sixth Formers can also use the facilities in the Sixth Form Library. Both libraries are open until 5pm every day, apart from the last day of each full term when the times vary. In Homework Club the girls have the opportunity to work in a quiet and studious environment making use of all the library resources.
During the school day the libraries are open at all times with lunchtime and the morning break being particularly busy. Sixth formers can spend their free periods at either library in silent study. The Main School Library contains the glass conference room which hosts meetings organized by both students and staff, including the fortnightly meeting of the Junior Book Club, School Council meetings and meetings between staff and external visitors.
Both libraries are managed by Mrs L Abrahams who is assisted by Sixth Form Students in the Sixth Form Library and a team of Student Librarians from years 8 – 11 in Main School.
Numerous book lists are available, covering popular fiction reads for different ages and titles related to specific topics.
Of the periodicals to be found in the libraries some subscriptions also include full or partial access to web sites. Details with passwords can be found in the Library and in the Library Room of the VLE.
Throughout the year the Library supports a number of events including the Carnegie Reading Shadowing Scheme, competitions highlighting important dates in the calendar and Taster Sessions for Year 4 pupils from local primary schools.
