Qualifications

The purpose of an education at Altrincham Girls’ Grammar School is not just to obtain A Level qualifications but to leave after two years with a sound preparation for life.

All students study AS and A2 level courses during the two years.  The AS level courses are completed in Year 12, and in Year 13 it is the A2 courses which are delivered.  In Year 12, most students take 4 AS subjects of their choice and General Studies AS is a compulsory subject for every student.  At the start of Year 13 most students will choose to stop studying one subject and concentrate on 3 A2 level courses.  A few students do continue with all 4 subject to A2 level.  All students are entered for the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). If they wish, students can enter themselves to complete the AQA Baccalaureate Qualification. The AQA Baccalaureate Qualification is awarded when students have four A level subjects, including General Studies, the EPQ and a log of work in the community.  A number of additional qualifications are also available for all members of the Sixth Form for example the Duke of Edinburgh Award and Dance Leader Award.
