Internet Safety Tips
The Internet is becoming an ever more important resource and tool. At AGGS we teach our girls how to use it in all subjects. Here are our tips for using the Internet safely.
1. Don't share your passwords
Letting people know your password leaves you vulnerable. They then have the power to disrupt your life in all sorts of unexpected ways.
Keep your passwords to yourself.

2. Remember it's a public place
The Internet's a public place, even when it might seem it's just you and your friends.
Don't say things there you wouldn't shout out in a large crowded room.

3. Think twice about your photos
You lose control of photos as soon as you upload or share them.
If you wouldn't want your grandmother to see the photo, think about whether you should be posting it to the Internet for all to see for ever.
4. Check your privacy settings
Social networking sites all have intricate privacy settings. You can tailor these so you're sharing things with your friends but not with strangers.
But remember, the Internet is still essentially a public place.

5. Be aware that some people lie about who they are
The Internet can introduce you to loads of new people with similar interests.
But if you're talking to people you've never met in real life, can you be sure they're really who they say they are?

6. If you feel uncomfortable, say so
If anything happens online that makes you feel uncomfortable, upset or hurt go and tell a trusted adult straightaway. You won't get in trouble.

You can also click the button below (a smaller version of which appears in the top-right corner of all
of our school pages) to report abuse to the Child Exploitation & Online Protection Centre.
