Introduction

Welcome to the Altrincham Grammar School for Girls’ PE homepage. The work within Physical Education is designed to support, contribute to, and compliment the aims of the school by providing pupils with the opportunity to achieve the highest possible standards of which they are capable.

To this end, Physical Education provides equality of access for all pupils to a broad, balanced and suitably challenging curriculum at KS3. The KS3 curriculum aims to build on pupils work at KS2 and provide them with comprehensive movement education through which they can assess their own abilities and interests in relation to the activities they experience. Through a balance of individual co-operative, collaborative and competitive learning situations, pupils will be encouraged to appreciate their own strengths and weaknesses, and respond appropriately and sympathetically to the needs of others.

Experiencing success and receiving acknowledgement of that success is considered crucial to the promotion of a pupils’ self-esteem and sense of well being. At Altrincham Grammar School for Girls the department strives to aid girls in the adoption of healthy lifestyles. Developmental schemes of work are sympathetic to the pupil’s needs, and sets high levels of expectation for every pupil relative to their ability and experience.

Physical Education aims to provide a supportive learning environment in which each pupil develops increasing self-confidence, and a desire to strive for their highest levels of achievement. The combination of appropriately challenging tasks, a diverse range of teaching and learning methods and a high level of resources aim to support high standards of attainment, motivation and participation.
