On Monday 26th and Wednesday 28th November, the music department held its annual Christmas Concert. The concert was very well attended, and featured over a hundred student performers in a variety of orchestras, choirs and ensembles. These were led both by staff and students, who produced a wonderful range of pieces which got everyone in the mood for Christmas. It was wonderful to hear over 220 students from Y7 – 13 performed to such an exceptionally high standard.
A couple of highlights included First Orchestra’s performance of the theme from E.T, and Junior Choir’s rendition of ‘A Million Dreams’ from The Greatest Showman. A huge well done to all those involved!
“The variety of music was immense and showed huge diversity, from Chamber Choir’s ‘Ave Maria’ by Holst to Junior Choir’s ‘It feels like Christmas’ from The Muppets’ Christmas Carol. From String Orchestra’s new arrangement of a Kodaly piece to 2nd Orchestra’s ‘Russian Dance’ by Tschaikovsky. Jazz Band played some great new songs, led brilliantly by Y13 Effi S and promoted their first ever Jazz Band concert to come in January at the Cinammon Club (Fri Jan 25).”
“In my 12 years here at AGGS, I don’t think there has been a Christmas concert with so many Y13 students involved, and this inevitably has an impact on both standard and the professionalism of the event.
As ever, some excellent student ensembles performed across 2 nights and we are so grateful to everyone behind the scenes who helped to produce such wonderful evenings, in particular the Music Department staff and all staff helpers who gave up their free time.”- Ms Mayall
Bravo to everyone who participated in the Christmas Concert!
