This term, Year 8 have been busy making fabric banners in D&T with Miss Eastwood. They were designed and made following discussions about the suffragette movement and the history of using fabric banners as a form of campaigning and protest. The students were encouraged to discuss their own personal views and choose an issue that they would like to design a banner for in order to inform others and raise awareness.  BLM has been a big focus this year. Students were encouraged to explore a range of textile techniques ranging from traditional or more experimental. These included applique, block printing , plastic fusion and machine embroidery.
Â
As some students were isolating due to lockdown some of these banners were completed at home meaning they had to be creative with their choice of materials – from recycled clothing, tea towels, gift ribbon… all sorts!
Â
It has been an enjoyable project that has sparked lively debate! The students have worked extremely hard and should be very proud of what they achieved.Â
