Another year, another amazing charity day at AGGS! The pupils were treated to a pantomime performed by Year 13, which, as per usual, was incredible and really got the crowd laughing and cheering. From political references to classic Mean Girls characters, this performance really had it all!
Thanks to Mr Carr and Mr Barry (aka Santa Claus and his trusty elf) and the incredibly talented contestants, this years talent show was absolutely fantastic. Mrs Hulme made a special appearance, singing a classic Christmas hit. The vast array of diverse acts this year made it really difficult for the judges to pick just one winner per show, but the first talent show was won by Lydia (Yr 10), and the second by Elsa (Yr 11). A huge well done to everybody who took part, you were all brilliant!
Throughout the day, there were also stalls around the school to raise money for this years deserving charities. Year 7 through to Year 11 were entertaining us in a variety of different ways, from selling cupcakes, performing karaoke and even providing beauty treatments! Thank you to every form for your contribution this year, it is greatly appreciated.
The charities we have picked this year to donate our funds to are Age UK, Mind, and Back on Track. Age UK aim to provide life-enhancing services and vital support to people in later life. Mind empower people to understand their mental health condition and the choices available to them which can change their life. Back on Track is a Manchester charity which enables disadvantaged adults to make lasting, positive changes in their lives. They work with people who are going through a process of recovery or rehabilitation, having been through problems with alcohol or drugs, offending, homelessness and mental health. These are all extremely worthy causes and, with the help of the staff and pupils at AGGS, we hope that the events of our Charity Day will provide support and assistance to those in need.
On behalf of the Charity Committee, I’d like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and to see you all in the new year ready to raise more money for deserving causes!
